2C-Mask

Here are those elements i used to complete my masks for assignment 2C. There are glue, aluminium foil, news papers, tissue paper, water color and of course water.

This time we have to prepare two masks by ourselves. The first one is on our full face with our skin colour and the second one is in black and white with emotion.

In order to get the scale of my own face, I used aluminum foil as the basement, then I put the wet news paper for the first layer follow by tissue papers. The last layer for my masks are white A4 paper which make into small pieces and wet. Latex glue was used in this assignment.

After waiting for one night for its to dry, I colored it and here are my products. I had tried my best to mixed up all the suitable colours for colouring my face.

Thank weng jen who gave me a hand in making the masks.

Bamboo Tool Sound (BST)

The assignment for this time is focus on bamboo. We are required to create our own bamboo instrument during the Gettho orientation which was organised for the 1st year students who study in HBP. Below, this is my production. It is really a new try for me to make an instrument by myself, quite proud of it.

As everyone have to create their own BST, Prof.Wan request us to play in a group. Here we are practising but i didn't get to take the picture while we are performing at Sunday night.

A2 board-one sketching picture of my instrument, one hundred words of describtion about my product, two photos, logo and done for my assignment. =)

Bamboo Sense

The bamboo picture was shown by Prof. Wan. With this picture, we have to use our own words to describe how we feel about the bamboo. Using my ears, eyes and sense, this is what i see, hear and smell.

What i heard

As a second batch student, the 1st lesson I attended in USM was conducted by Professor Wan on 21st July 2010. Scale was the topic that he taught on that day. The video he showed was amazing, is about the measuring unit that people used to use nowadays--meter. The video was make by an interior design student, showing the look of the planet and the people when the distance is small to 10 to the power of -21 and up to 10 to the power of +20.
As Prof. Wan said, knowledge is very important, no matter what course we are studying we shouldn’t limit what we have to learn; inversely, we should learn beyond the compass of inquiry. No matter how rich we are, how many A’s we score, how beautiful we look, without knowledge our body was just an empty shell. Knowledge is the only thing that people cannot grab from you. Hence, we have to learn no matter how old we are and how bad the condition is.

1. Many decades ago, people was using inches, feet and arm as a scale in measuring the length of a distance. And now, we use meter. Why? Is it more accurate? Is it more consistent? Or is it just a system for people to follow? If it is a system that people are following now, then we can say that the system is changing time by time. Maybe in the future someone will create a new measuring scale and find out that using meter as a scale is not that accurate. At the time, people is going to change again. A good change is worth to be proud of, one of the students from our class had asked Prof. Wan what can he do to change the world after knowing that the group of conspirators are going to control the population of the whole world.

2. Occident is a new word I learnt on that day. It means “west” and for east is called orient. There is a lot of thing that we do not know and that’s why we are here studying and that’s why Prof. Wan is here to teach us what we knew and what we don’t. No matter what he said, the only thing is--we have to believe in it! =)
